This plan show the proposed course of the Leeds & Bradford Railway between Shipley and Bingley (the Shipley-Colne line). It is one of a series of such plans. The line opened in 1847 and I have derived the presumed date from this fact. The relationship of the line to the River Aire, New Hirst Mill and New Laith is clearly shown. The nearby canal to the north-east is not mapped. An interesting feature are the buildings and weir belonging to New Hirst Mill, and the trackways through the adjacent portion of Hirst Wood which at this time was part of the Rosse estate.
