This item is annotated in pencil, ‘Hill v Great Northern Railway Co, plaintiff plan’. The land at issue is in a triangle between Wakefield Road, Townhill Street and Adolphus Street Station (GNR). Ernest Street and the Royal Hotel also also mapped. Adolphus Street station was originally opened in 1854 but this plan must date after 1867 (when Adolphus Street was closed to passengers) but before the 1908 OS map. I haven’t been able to identify this legal case but the most plausible scenario is that Hill is a landowner seeking compensation from the railway company. Comparison with other maps suggests that very little of the land involved was actually used by the Railway Company. There were several establishments in Bradford called ‘The Royal Hotel’. A famous one in Darley Street is now an Oxfam Shop (2018).
